Poetry is a type of literature work written by the author to express emotions and create an effect on the readers. They can be impactful and powerful. They were arranged in the series of lines and can be grouped together called stanzas. They come from different styles and forms. The two forms are traditional poetry and organic poetry. Traditional poetry follows strict rules about lines, stanzas, rhythm and rhyme. It includes odes, haikus, ballads, sonnets, epics, and limericks. In this type of forms, rhymes repeat regularly throughout the poem. A pattern of rhyming, called rhyme scheme, repeats across different stanzas. In the other hand, organic poetry does not follow any rules or patterns, but instead break them. They can be free verse (“freestyle”) and concrete poetry. It uses conventional spelling, punctuation, and drama. In free verse, the lines and stanzas are often in a variety of lengths. It usually describes like an everyday speech. Both traditional and organic poetry often use sound devices to give poetry a musical quality. These included rhyme, rhythm, alliteration, consonance, assonance. It may make poems more memorable and easy to repeat for the readers. It also allows the poets to develop their style in a certain way. Rhyme is the repetition of sounds at the end of the words. Rhythm is a pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables. We can use a method called scanning to analyze rhythm by marking the meter. Alliteration is a repetition of consonant sounds at the beginnings of words. Consonance is the repetition of consonant sounds within and at the ends of words. Assonance is the repetition of vowel sounds in words that do not need end with the same consonant. The poets could apply the way of arranging words to recreate the imagery, or sensory experiences, for the readers. The right use of poem can bring out the beautiful message the author wanted to transfer to the readers.
