The most important difference that distinguishes between individuals in modern works and those in postmodern works is that the first one is the individual and the second one is the subject. In contrast to the construction of the text on the modernist individual who embraces human-centered civilization, postmodernism that adopts decentralization and attempts to dominate the understanding of the text that negates idealism and uses subject rather than an individual. In Fehmi K’n?n Acayip Serüvenleri, it is not possible to talk about a dominant character at all. All characters seem like a puppet in the hand of the author. They are not able to gain their individuality. Even Fehmi Kavk? who gives his name to the narration and seems as the protagonist of it is not able to gain his individuality. Also, other characters taking place in the narration could not get out of this line.
Fehmi K., Selim Ta??l and Anette are the protagonists of the narration in the text basis. In spite of the fact that these three heroes, especially the love relation between Fehmi K. and Anette, are foregrounded on a certain basis, the life of Hilmi Yavuz, the narrator of the text, is examined.
Fehmi Kavk?: Fehmi Kavki, who is mentioned in the name of the narrative, is the fact of a reference made in the narrative. Fehmi Kavki’s name suggests the name of Franz Kafka. Both names start with the same letters and have the same number of sounds. This similarity is not limited to just the name. There is also a reference to the heroine of Franz Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis” (Karaburgu, 2007).
“Fehmi Kavk? erkenden uyand? ve dosdo?ru aynaya bakt?. Aynada gördü?ü kendisiydi; ve –bir gece önce hamamböce?ine dönü?memi? oldu?u için Tanr?’ya ?ükretti. ” (p. 85)
Gregor Samsa, the evolutionary character of Kafka, who is a simple worker trapped under heavy work and life routine and turning into an insect over time, presents a similar appearance to Fehmi K. who looks like an overwhelmed civil servant.
Selim Ta??l: Fehmi Kavki’s friend. In Jean-Paul Sartre’s La Nausée (Nausea), Roquentin tries to write the life story of Marquis de Rollebun. In Fehmi K’n?n Acayip Serüvenleri, the narrative writer tries to convince readers that the truth is not like that at all. According to the author, Marquis de Rollebun is actually Selim Ta??l and is trying to write his own life story. Moreover, Roquentin here is Fehmi Kavk? himself (Karaburgu, 2007, p.3)
Anette: Fehmi K.’s girlfriend. There are not many details and references about her.
