There has been a great revolution in the communication industry in that at the moment almost everyone owns a Smartphone worldwide. People prefer buying trending phones as they come with extra features that ease the way of communication and provide entertainment. Smartphones were created through the collaboration of electronic based companies like Samsung and Apple with the cellular phone carriers (Sheikh et al. 2013 p. 148). There have been many improvements in the gadgets due to advancements in the technological field which have brought about Android devices and iOS. Though they might seem similar, Android and iOS have some distinguishing characteristics.
A significant resemblance between Android and the iOS phones is their shape. All iOS phones have the same form, that is, they are all rectangular with round corners (Gronli et al. 2014, p.636). A similar shape can be observed in Android phones such as the typical Galaxy Samsung model. Equally, the iOS and Android display the same touchscreen which is unusually large and covers almost the entire front part of the device. The full screen in both technologies similarly serves the same functions of acting as navigating tool due to the absence of usual buttons mostly used in the non-smartphones. Both appliances possess a high-resolution MP3 and cameras. Also, both phones allow users to enjoy the 3G.4G, and Wi-Fi, which are always fast and reliable (Sheikh et al. 2013 p. 143). Moreover, like the Android, iOS presents a similar notification center that enables the customer to access features such as text messages and update notifications (Sheikh et al. 2013, p. 148). Likewise, based on the similarity of their app store, iOS and Android phones have similar downloadable features such as automatic storage.
On the other hand, iOS and Android phones have significant differences, especially in their system of performance. For instance, iOS apps have more sound quality compared to Android’s, which lets iOS phones possess more selection features. iPhones have more apps as well, being 75,000 more compared to android phones (Zimbra, Sarangee, and Jindal, 2017, p. 100). It is assumed that the additional apps on iOS might be the contributing factor to its high price. Concerning the download permission, Android phones allow the users to download from third-party sites and are more accommodative to the developers’ rights compared to the iOS phones which restrict downloads only to their designed sites. This implies that iOS is more secure than Android from threats caused by third-party sites. As for software performance, iOS displays a high level of simplicity and user-welcoming mode of service as compared to android technologies which require tedious customization of the phone settings and applications (Lee et al. 2016, p. 80). As per the current standing, Android technologies have more carriers than iOS, a feature that makes them more accessible and available.
In conclusion, Android and iOS technologies display more differences than similarities. It is because of these differences that many users prefer selected features that suit their preferences such as simplicity of applications or customization of the same. With ever-growing technological advancements in phone production, people tend to buy more appealing and relevant phones that fulfill their desires. Apparently, such preferences will lead to the development and invention of more adaptive phone features such as screen resolutions, battery size, increased application performance, and so on.
